Carolina Kitchen: Orange Date Nut Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 medium orange, unpeeled and cut into slices
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup chopped pecans if desired

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Stir together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda
  3. In a blender, combine the egg, milk, sliced orange, butter and sugar
  4. Blend until smooth
  5. Add dates and flour mixture and blend to mix
  6. Pour into a greased and floured loaf pan
  7. Bake 1 hr 20 minutes until done, check at 1 hour
