A popular hiking trail along the Swannanoa River remains closed a year after being damaged by flood waters. But could it reopen? That's what one viewer wants to know.
"The River Trail West at Warren Wilson College has been closed for more than a year, since the severe flooding in May of 2018. I was wondering when, and if, it will be open for use again," Robert Hughes, of Black Mountain, wrote to Ask 13.
That trail was very popular for lots of people in that area. Hughes said signs went up at the time saying it would be a long-term closure. The parking area is still fenced off.
"The small parking area on Warren Wilson Road is closed while we continue to assess maintenance and safety concerns," Warren Wilson College spokeswoman Mary Bates said.
She said college officials hope to have a plan in place for the parking lot and river trail by the end of the summer.
We'll keep you posted if we hear about any changes.
