McDowell County say the body of a white female found floating in Paxton Creek Monday afternoon, May 14, 2018, has been positively identified as 31-year-old Brittney Crystal Bumgardner, who was missing for weeks.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday morning at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where doctors used dental records to confirm the identity.

It was also determined that Bumgardner, of 5757 Old Greenlee Road, drowned. There were no signs of physical injury, and no foul play is suspected at this time.

Family members reported Bumgardner missing on Thursday, May 10, stating they had not spoken with her since Monday, April 30.

Kayakers discovered the body around noon Monday in Paxton Creek behind Woody Farm Drive.
