A 55-foot spruce from Colorado will be the capitol Christmas tree this year. It made a stop Tuesday afternoon at Asheville Outlets.

Santa was also there, along with holiday-themed activities, including a toy drive for Eblen Charities' St. Nicholas Project.

Named the People's Tree, the Engleman spruce came from a national forest in Colorado and is making stops all along the way to Washington.

"It's also an opportunity for us to connect with our communities and spread hope, joy and happiness, especially during this very challenging year," USDA Forest Service's Lawrence Lujan said.

The official tree lighting will take place in early December on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
