With state license plate and DMV closures, how can you renew a vehicle tag?

The News 13 I-Team Coronavirus Help Desk continues to get answers for the community during this health crisis.

Tammie asks News 13, "As an essential employee that has to go to work, what do we do if our vehicle tags have to be renewed and the tag office is closed and you can't get your vehicle inspected to do it online?"

At the license plate office on Smokey Park Highway, the lobby is closed through April 3, as many offices are. News 13, however, found nine locations between license plate offices and DMV's that are open across the mountains, some with reduced hours. You can find that list below and check out your region on the state’s website HERE. You can also complete the paperwork online. Even with the "Stay safe, stay home" declaration made in Buncombe County, auto repair shops are considered essential. We checked with several who said they're doing state inspections. For the DMV, you need to make an appointment since it is limiting who's inside the office.
