Planning is underway to widen Amboy and Meadow Roads from I-240 to Biltmore Avenue.

The state Department of Transportation plans to turn the 2.6-mile stretch of road into a multi-lane roadway, including the possible addition of bike lanes and sidewalks where possible.

It also plans to replace the bridge over the French Broad River.

One driver we spoke to is ready for the changes.

"It's a headache. People be moving slow," said Myra Breazeale of Asheville. "They need more turning lanes, especially for the neighborhood on this road.

The DOT says construction wouldn't start until 2025.

A public meeting about the proposed $50 million project is set for March 28 at the Double Tree on Hendersonville Road.
