It’s the final push to make sure children across the world can experience a joyous holiday season, through shoeboxes filled with gifts.
National Collection Week for the Samaritan’s Purse outreach known as Operation Christmas Child, wraps up on Monday, Nov. 23.
Hendersonville Presbyterian Church is one of more than 4,000 drop-off sites across the country.
The shoeboxes are filled with things like toys, hygiene items and school supplies and distributed to kids in more than 100 countries.
Volunteers say the simple gift can make a big difference, especially this year.
“When we see the results of kids opening shoeboxes in different countries and seeing the joy in their face and hearing stories of kids who got these many these years ago and now they’ve become good, strong Christians and now they’re out there talking about Operation Christmas Child," said Operation Christmas Child volunteer Dale Stephens.
Due to the pandemic, the collection sites are outdoors this year.
