Greenville deputies shoot, kill man involved in domestic disturbance

Around 2 a.m. Saturday morning, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance at a home in the 1700 block of Scuffletown Road.

The caller said that her estranged husband was on her property and had a gun, according to a GCSO release. One of the deputies who responded was familiar with the subject due to a prior call at the same location, where the man was armed with a gun and causing a very similar disturbance, a representative said in the release.

The release says that deputies, knowing the man's violent tendencies, used caution as they arrived on scene and approached the home.

The deputies located the man in the back yard. When they approached him, the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the deputies, at which time they fired at him.

Deputies then rendered aid to the man until EMS arrived. The EMS responders pronounced him deceased.

Deputies say that at this time this is an active investigation being handled by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and there are no more details to release.

Sheriff Lewis asks Greenville residents to please keep this family and the deputies in your prayers, "as this is a tragic time for all parties involved."
