News 13's investigative team is working to answer your questions about the coronavirus pandemic and its impacts on Western North Carolina.

A viewer wrote in to request more information on the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program that was recently approved for North Carolina.

The viewer asked, “how will this work for split families?”

The program will provide extra help in buying groceries for the families of children who normally receive free and reduced lunch at school.

A representative with the NC Department of Health and Human Services said the benefit is issued based on information on file with the Department of Public Instruction.

They said these benefits are intended to help solely the child.
