J.C. Penney: Stores in Boone, Hendersonville, Easley to close

On Friday J.C. Penney released a list of stores set to close, and three area stores were on it.

According to the official release here, the J.C. Penney's stores in Boone, N.C (Boone Mall), Hendersonville, N.C. (Blue Ridge Mall) and Easley, S.C. (Town 'N Country Mall) will close. The release also says that "most" of the named stores will close in June of 2017.

In the release J. C. Penney Company, Inc. says it will close 138 stores, and approximately 5000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the store closures.

Most affected stores will begin a liquidation process on April 17, 2017, Penney's said in the release.

Other stores in North and South Carolina that Penney's said in the release that it plans to close include Gastonia, Monroe and Roanoke Rapids in N.C., and Charleston and Mitchell in S.C.
