Late last month, lightning struck the Health and Human Services building in Haywood County, causing thousands of dollars in damage to its air conditioning system. The Board of Commissioners approved a budget amendment for repairs.
“We think the fix right now is $18,000. And, until we get that board installed to see what other kind of like the computer board installed, they won't be able to know the extent of the damage,” Commission Chairman Kevin Ensley said.
Ensley said the county will have to meet a $10,000 deductible but said insurance is likely to cover the remainder of the cost.
