Extreme flash flooding and heavy rains caused extensive damage across Western North Carolina. In McDowell County, a State of Emergency was issued, swift water rescue teams were deployed and multiple roads were washed out and closed.

An emergency shelter has been opened at the YMCA in Marion, at 348 Grace Corpening Drive.

In Old Fort, a mudslide closed Bat Cave Road to thru traffic. The two-lane road was passable, but mud did cover the road, partially blocking one lane. No one was injured.
