Multiple agencies work to arrest Candler man on fentanyl trafficking charges

An investigation involving multiple agencies resulted in the arrest of one local man and turned up several illegal items in his possession.

Buncombe County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Aaron Sarver reported on July 14 that Jamil Harden Rout, of Candler, had been arrested on the following charges:

  1. Level III Trafficking Fentanyl by Possession
  2. Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

Sarver said Deputies from the Buncombe County Anti-Crime Task Force (BCAT), the Sheriff’s Community Enforcement Team (SCET), along with the Community Corrections Division of the NC Department of Public Safety and the NC DMV License & Theft Bureau worked together in the investigation. Additional felony charges are pending at this time.

A Level III trafficking charge faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 225 months and a maximum sentence of 282 months, Sarver said, and a $500,000 fine as well.

The following items were seized during the investigation:

  • 358 grams of Fentanyl
  • $5768.00 in U.S. Currency
  • 9mm Kimber handgun
  • Stolen Vehicle - 2018 Mercedes AMG GLE 43
  • Pill Press

TWO ARRESTED, CHARGED IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY DRUG ENFORCEMENT OPERATION

An individual named Malik Lewis was also arrested for a parole violation at the same time Rout was taken into custody, according to the sheriff's office.
