If you're headed to one popular, family-owned pizza spot in Asheville, you might notice a big change.
The former Marco's Pizzeria was renamed 828 Family Pizzeria on Jan. 1, 2018.
But don't panic, loyal customers. The name is about the only difference you'll see.
"It's not like we woke up one day and decided that we wanted to change the name," owner Brian Lane explained.
Owners Brian and Dominic Lane said the local Marco's was forced into the name change after a letter from Marco's Franchising LLC, an Ohio-based chain.
"We thought the 828 included everybody, including the community," Brian said.
The name change isn't phasing loyal customers that we spoke with.
"It's unfortunate. It's a bummer. You get it, you understand it, but it's not going to change who they are," customer John Oswald said.
Locals can still find the same great pizza they found here in previous years.
"Their sauce and their crust. I mean, I love all pizza, but this is definitely my favorite," customer John Atwater said.
And the people you'll find here at 828 Family Pizzeria is also the same as it ever was.
"It's coming in here and talking to these guys behind the bar. When we sit with the family, it's the waitstaff, it's all the other clientele that's in here," Oswald said when asked about his favorite part of 828 Family Pizzeria.
It's a recipe other restaurants are hard pressed to match, no matter their name.
"It's not brain surgery, it's not crazy science," Brian said. "We think about how we want to be rated when we go out to eat ... and we try to make it a accommodating, loving experience."
828 Family Pizzeria has two locations in north and south Asheville. The north Asheville restaurant is located at 946 Merrimon Avenue, and the south Asheville location is at 1854 Hendersonville Road. Click here for their hours of operation.
