Wastewater overflows in Hendersonville, spilling thousands of gallons into Wash Creek

Hendersonville utility officials confirm, the wastewater collection system experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater on Thursday, July 11, 2019.

In a press release, officials say the discharge happened at around 11 a.m. when a manhole on Brevard Road discharged approximately, 3800 gallons of untreated wastewater. The back-up was caused by debris in the line.

The untreated wastewater entered Wash Creek in the French Broad River Basin.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources was notified of the event Friday, July 12, and will be reviewing the matter.
