Shooting suspect taken into custody in McDowell County; Victim remains hospitalized

After a nearly 24-hour search, McDowell County law enforcement have arrested a man they say was involved in a shooting incident.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, Robert Luther Dover Jr., 51, of Marion, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

MARION MAN WANTED IN JACKTOWN ROAD SHOOTING

Dover's arrest stems from a shooting incident that took place on Tuesday, Jan. 12, in Marion. Officials say Dover and a 56-year-old male victim from Marion got into an altercation at Dover's residence on Jacktown Road around 2 p.m. Dover pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the stomach during the altercation.

The sheriff's office says Dover fled the area on a motorcycle and was later taken into custody on Jan. 13 before 12:30 p.m. at a residence on Old U.S. 221 South.

The victim remains hospitalized, officials say.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
