The YMCA of Western North Carolina is adapting to changing school schedules. The Y has partnered with local community organizations to bring children together in a safe, socially distanced way to study STEM curriculums.
At Blue Ridge Assembly, students also participate in enrichment activities that supplement their school work.
"I normally play on the playground and do tennis," fourth-grader Kaden said.
"I love it. There is nature everywhere. You get to go on a hike almost every day. There's a lake a couple of miles from here you can go and hike at," sixth-grader Brandon said.
"I like it better than school because at school you can only go outside once a day," fifth-grader Mya said.
Students said they also learn about the importance of respect, honesty and responsibility.
