Strong storms cause downed trees, power outages, traffic problems

Strong thunderstorms moved through the mountains Friday afternoon, causing downed trees and traffic headaches.

Downed lines along Charlotte Highway, near the Blue Ridge Parkway blocked all five lanes of traffic.

There are also reports of downed trees across the area.

Downed limbs and trees are causing outages in the mountains, from Avery Creek to Swannanoa.

At about 5 p.m. Friday, around 2,000 Duke Power customers are affected.
