A beautiful rose garden in front of Shelley Haney's home is now part of her virtual kindergarten classroom at Hall Fletcher Elementary. During this time, she's sharpening her technology skills, in hopes of becoming an even better teacher.
"This is my 'Hall Fletcher', right here," says Haney as she gestures to her patio. "And, fortunately, I can move my 'Hall Fletcher' inside and outside."
Today, the math portion of Shelley Haney's class is out on her patio.
The Kindergarten teacher of 10 years is already a standout for bringing technology to her classroom.
Last year, News 13 featured Haney for using Facebook Live in her classroom.
Now Haney is using her time at home to dig into technology even more.
"Integrating new apps that I learned about, and being able to use those apps to basically screen-broadcast myself to my students," Haney explains.
Haney says in addition to her lessons, it's important for her students to see her on camera each day.
"They get to wake up in the morning and go, 'hey, I get to see Ms. Haney.' It gives them some sense of normalcy in a time it's anything but normal."
Her students, and their parents appreciate the effort.
One student tells her online, "I want to say you're beautiful and sweet and work hard and smart. Thank you for being my teacher"
"That just made my day!" exclaims Haney.
