The football team at Asheville Middle School played its first home game in more than 30 years Wednesday.
For decades, the team has traveled for all its games. And Asheville High School has been used as the Cougars' home field.
But Wednesday night the players ran out onto the school's new turf field in front of a huge crowd. It's something coach Travis Williams said the team has been looking forward to for years.
"Coming out every day, watching the field go up through the summer as we worked out through the summer, the boys, they just couldn’t keep their eyes off it," Williams said.
The coach said the players kept asking if they were going to get to play on the field this season.
"You’re gonna be on that field this year," he told them.
