A leadoff bunt single in the first inning and a leadoff double in the ninth was the entirety of the Asheville offense Monday in a 3-0 loss to Rome that ended the Tourists’ seven-game road trip.
Asheville (10-19) got strong pitching. Starter Nick Kennedy allowed just one earned run in six innings but was pitching against a shutout for the second time this season.
Shael Mendoza’s bunt and Casey Golden’s double were the only two hits.
The offense struck out 13 times and the defense committed three errors.
After an off-day Tuesday, the Tourists return to McCormick Field Wednesday to begin a seven-game homestand. Greensboro plays in Asheville through Friday before Kannapolis visits for a four-game set.
The second Thirsty Thursday of the season is a 7:05 p.m. start.
