A late rally by the Asheville Tourists wasn’t enough Friday night against Delmarva.
The Tourists fell to 0-2 on the season with a 6-5 loss to the Shorebirds.
Trailing 6-2, Asheville scored a pair runs in the eighth and pulled to within a run on Bret Boswell’s solo home run in the ninth.
The Tourists then drew two walks in the inning but couldn’t push across the tying run.
Casey Golden had two hits and a pair of RBIs for Asheville.
Tourists starter Breiling Eusebio (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs in 4.2 innings.
Delmarva starter Cameron Bishop (1-0) struck out six in six innings. The Tourists struck out 12 times, giving them 26 whiffs in two games.
Zach Jarrett, the grandson of NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Ned Jarrett, had a home run for the Shorebirds (2-0).
The Tourists continue a four-game series with Delmarva with single games on Saturday and Sunday.
Following three games in Kannapolis, the Tourists play their home opener at McCormick Field on April 12 vs. Columbia (S.C.), the first Thirsty Thursday of the season.
