After a terrible start to the 2018 season, the Asheville Tourists are showing signs of being a better baseball team.
An 8-3 win at Rome, Ga., on Sunday was the Tourists’ seventh in their last 12 games after a 3-13 start.
Six strong innings from starter Lucas Gilbreath (3-0) and a five-run seventh inning keyed the Asheville victory.
Gilbreath struck out nine and allowed just two runs.
Offensively, the Tourists got an RBI from each of the top five hitters in the batting order. Taylor Snyder had two doubles and an RBI and Bret Boswell also contributed two hits and drove home a run.
The Tourists (10-18) complete a seven-game road trip on Monday vs. Rome and then take a day off before returning to Asheville.
A seven-game homestand begins Wednesday vs. Greensboro, and the second Thirsty Thursday on the season is set for a 7:05 p.m. start.
