After a year-long absence on the airways, ESPN Radio has returned to the Asheville area.

iHeartMedia Asheville began broadcasting the popular package named ESPN Asheville last month on three stations - 92.9 FM; 880 AM and 1400 AM.

In addition, ESPN Asheville will also broadcast basketball and football games from the University of North Carolina.

The ESPN Radio shows include Golic and Wingo (6-10 am); Dan LeBatard (10 am-noon); the regionally syndicated David Glenn (concentrating on ACC sports, noon-3 p.m.); Will Cain (3-5 pm) and SEC expert Paul Finebaum (5-7 pm).

ESPN Radio played for years in this area with Asheville Radio Group on WISE 1310 AM. The station dropped that programming last year and switched to Fox Sports Radio, which includes shows by Dan Patrick and Colin Cowherd.

“I’m really excited we’re bringing the ESPN format back to sports talk listeners here in (WNC),” said Brian Hall, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Asheville. “The ESPN brand aligns perfectly with our platform of top-rated iHeartMedia radio stations here in Asheville.”

“ESPN is the premium brand in all of sports and ESPN Radio offers the best programming on the planet for sports fans,” said Bill McMartin, Area President for iHeartMedia Asheville. “iHeartMedia is already the home to the best local and regional sports in the area. Having ESPN Radio available in Western North Carolina will provide our listeners with even more coverage of the teams they love.”

iHeartMedia Asheville owns and operates WKSF-FM, WWNC-AM, WQNQ-FM, WQNS-FM, WPEK-AM and WKSF-HD2 and is part of iHeartMedia.
