Beyond the Scoreboard: Tourists rally from six-run deficit to win


The Asheville Tourists scored 10 runs in their last two offensive innings to rally from a six-run deficit Wednesday night at McCormick Field.

Chad Spanberger finished with six RBIs and three hits, including a pair of home runs, for Asheville (11-19) in the 14-10 win over Greensboro. Spanberger had 10 total bases, scored four runs and stole two bases.

The Grasshoppers (15-15) led 10-4 after scoring four runs in the top of the seventh, but Asheville responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning and six more runs in the eighth.

The Tourists’ 1-5 hitters were 11-for-22 with 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Greensboro collapsed during Asheville’s six-run rally in the eighth, allowing three walks, hitting two batters with pitches and giving up two runs on a throwing error.

Casey Golden had four hits and two RBIs for the Tourists, who will host Greensboro for Thirsty Thursday at McCormick Field, a 7:05 p.m. start.
