Forest City - The Forest City owls won't be playing baseball this summer. The Owls, a summer league wood bat team for college players had hoped to begin their season next week.

The team decided that with Governor Roy Cooper's decision to keep attendance and athletics restrictions in place it wasn't feasible to play. They decided to withdraw from the Coastal Plains League for 2020, but will return in 2021.

The Owls roster had players from Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, and N.C. State who had committed to play this summer and the Owls could have played this season with a severe limit on attendance but for the owners that defeats the purpose of teams like the Owls.

Minority owner Rob Frost said, "It would be incredibly hard for us to turn away fans, friends and sponsors from the ballpark. "
