After a deafening 4-0 win against the Carolina Lady Dynamo in Greensboro on Saturday, the Asheville City Soccer women’s team face off against Beaufort County FC Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
To say it’s been a successful start for Asheville City would be an understatement. The Blues sit in the number 2 spot in the league after a brief mid-season break. A win Tuesday would put them in the top spot in the WPSL Conference Carolinas!
According to the team, the defense along with goalkeeper Bryson Lee continue to form an impenetrable wall that has yet to concede a goal in conference play. Look for the backline to cause problems for Beaufort County on Tuesday. But the defense isn’t the only part of the squad on a roll.
Both Jennifer Cudjoe and Anna Sumpter have netted three goals in the past two games, causing headaches for opposing defenders. The Asheville City midfield deserves much of the credit for providing the space and through balls for the attackers. The midfield has also helped the defense by stripping possession away from opposing attackers before they can reach the Asheville City third of the field.
Beaufort County should be a good test for the Blues, as they sit third in the table with two wins, a draw and a loss. They’re coming off of a narrow 1-0 victory over the Charleston Fleet and they’re hoping for a similar result on Tuesday.
