Battle for first place in both boys and girls basketball games in Sylva Friday. Pisgah at Smoky Mountain with first place in the WNCAC on the line in both. Pisgah girls beat Smoky Mountain 65-56, but the Smoky Mountain boys were victorious 72-62.

Owen High football coach Kenny Ford recuperating after back surgery Thursday. Ford has stenosis and degenerative discs. He told News 13 Sports that he hopes to be playing golf in April. Ford has won 230 games in 29 years.

College basketball doubleheader from Cullowhee on MY 40 Saturday. The women's game between Mercer and Western Carolina starts at 2, followed by the men's game between UNCG and the Catamounts.
