T.C. Roberson will be the first school in Buncombe County to have a lacrosse team.

Members of Empire Lacrosse, a local youth league, noticed Asheville was one of the only cities in the state without school teams. So they started a non-profit and raised money to help start one at T.C. Roberson. This spring, they will kick off their season.

"We're really excited to be a pioneer in the area for public school lacrosse," Roberson lacrosse coach Glenn Alford said. "A lot of work has been put in by the school itself and the community to kind of get everything going."

Tryouts will held in February.

There is a similar push for lacrosse teams in several other schools throughout the mountains.
