THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS -- Pisgah holds off a late Asheville High rally to beat the Cougars 17-14 on Thursday Night Lights. Pisgah never trailed in this battle of old rivals. The Bears scored with 1:30 to go in the half on Tanner Wike's 13-yard pass to his 6-3 receiver Trey Morgan who just grabbed the ball over a defender.
Asheville came right back, with Devon Davidson finding Corey Clement wide open in the back of the end zone with 2.6 seconds left. The touchdown tied the game 7-7 at the half.
Pisgah took the lead In the third quarter when Tanner Fox hit a 29-yard field goal. The Bears added insurance in the fourth quarter. Tanner Wike found Trey Morgan again, this time, they connect on a 2-yard touchdown pass on a fourth and goal to make it 17-7.
Asheville failed to convert on a fourth and goal from the one-yard line with but did score with 28 seconds left on Devon Davidson's 4-yard run to make it 17-14. The Cougars failed to recover an onside kick and Pisgah got the victory. It's the first time Pisgah has beaten Asheville since 1997.
Next week on Thursday Night Lights, it will be Robbinsville at Christ School at 7. The Greenies game at Heathwood Hall, SC for this Friday has been postponed because of the expected heavy rains associated with Hurricane Hermine. The game won't be made up.
