Eight of 10 teams win by impressive margins, Brevard and Cherokee join the rankings for the first time.

1. Franklin (4-0)

The Panthers keep rolling with a 42-21 win over Swain County. Franklin has a week off and two more non-conference games before Mountain Six Conference play begins with an Oct. 6 showdown at Hendersonville.

2. Mountain Heritage (3-0)

Cougars look like they are headed for double-digit wins for a third straight season after a 55-0 walkover at Rosman. Mtn. Heritage is 20-4 vs. WNC opponents since the start of the 2015 season.

Friday’s Game - home vs. Hayesville

3. Reynolds (3-1, 1-0)

Explosive, big-play Rockets outscored Erwin 49-34 to get Western Mountain Athletic Conference play off to a good start. Reynolds has won 15 straight games against this week’s opponent, Enka.

4. Murphy (3-1)

No contest in a 48-0 romp over North Georgia; Bulldogs this week play out-of-state opponent for third straight game.

Friday’s game - home vs. Gilmer County (Ga.)

5. Mitchell (4-0)

After a 49-19 win over McDowell, dominant Mountaineers have outscored four opponents 157-56.

Friday’s game -home vs. Carolina (S.C.) Wildcats

6. Pisgah (3-1)

On a night of routs, Pisgah waltzed to a 50-14 win over R-S Central. One more non-conference game before Bears open Mountain Six Conference play Sept. 22 vs. Polk County.

Friday’s Game - at Greeneville (Tenn.)

7. Christ School (3-0)

Take that, public schools. Greenies laid the wood at Big Oak Stadium, whomping Robbinsville 34-7. The Greenies have outscored first three opponents 103-32.

8. West Henderson (3-1, 1-0)

Punishing ground game was on full display (463 yards rushing) in a 42-7 rout of North Buncombe to get off to a good start in Western Mountain 3-A Conference play.

9. Brevard (3-1)

Blue Devils won their third straight with a 42-32 shootout over Madison. Team has bounced back impressively from opening-night loss to Mountain Heritage.

10. Cherokee (3-0)

Braves pitched a 34-0 shutout of Asheville School; quarterback Tye Mintz leading an offense averaging 40 points a game.
