Body found at Nantahala Lake; no foul play suspected at this time

An autopsy has been scheduled for a body found at Nantahala Lake.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office says multiple departments responded on July 27 after someone reported they found a body at the lake.

Investigators said they were able to locate a home near the lake where the occupant hadn't been seen since after he arrived on Sunday. Investigators said they also found items on a dock near the home that looked like someone might have been in the process of fishing.

The deceased was identified, but deputies say they're not releasing his name until family members have been notified.

Macon County authorities say no foul play is suspected at this time, but an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted.
