Buncombe County leaders held a special meeting Tuesday to discuss affordable housing projects for 2022.
Commissioners spent time prioritizing the projects, putting a couple Mountain Housing Opportunities locations at the top of a list that contained Asheville and Buncombe County applications for new construction and upgrades.
The list for county-only projects is smaller and less expensive, but still comes to about $1.3 million more than what's in the county's budget for affordable housing.
County leaders decided to shift $500,000 from the general fund into affordable housing. Now, they will wait to see what kind of money they get from the Recovery Act.
"If we don't have recovery funds, I think we should advocate for an increase, because this has been identified as one of our highest priorities," Buncombe County Commission Chairman Brownie Newman said.
The next Affordable Housing Committee meeting will be held in May.
