Freezing rain and sleet are possible overnight in some areas of Western North Carolina.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Friday for Avery, Buncombe, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, Swain and Yancey counties, where some light icing is possible overnight.

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Friday for Avery, Graham, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Swain and Yancey counties, where gusts of up to 50 mph are expected in elevations above 3,500 feet.

Drier air is expected to move into the area Friday afternoon, providing a brief respite before another system brings a chance of moisture to the region late Saturday into early Sunday. This round is looking like a wintry mix of sleet, snow and possibly freezing rain.
