Two pieces of steel from the Twin Towers are part of a memorial at the Clyde Fire Department in Haywood County.
On Friday, a memorial ceremony was held there. But, this year, the ceremony was private because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ceremony honors those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as retired New York firefighters who now live in the area.
"We lost 343 firefighters on Sept. 11, 2001. I feel like it’s important for the upcoming generations and the generations leaving that that remains in everyone’s memories," Clyde Fire Lt. Michael Cary said.
The Clyde Fire Department also has bricks you can buy in memory of a loved one to help support the memorial.
