Homeward Bound, a nonprofit that works with the homeless, plans to provide permanent housing for people living on the street.

Organization officials said the agency plans to renovate the Days Inn hotel on Tunnel Road into 85 apartments.

Homeward Bound executive director Meredith Switzer said the agency has been exploring the option for months and are in contract to purchase the property.

"The project itself is to really address the needs of those experiencing chronic homelessness in our community. They really don’t have a housing solution,” Switzer said. "We’ve known for a long time that we needed a lot more housing options for those who have the highest needs in our community.”

Homeward Bound also plans to offer services like health care at that location. It will be launching a public campaign to help pay for the project. Click here to learn how to donate to Homeward Bound.
