A local barbershop that has been open since the 1950s is closing its doors.

Joe King's Hair Shop has been a long-time staple in north Asheville.

Since King's death 15 years ago, Susan Hill Gousby has owned the business.

She said it's hard to find the employees she needs, so she has decided to sell the property.

Gousby said there are customers who have been coming to the shop their entire lives.

"A lot of people that, from their childhood in the 60's, come back to town and they say, 'Oh! Gosh, Joe's is still there!' So they'll come by."

Gousby and the shop's other employees are moving to Clipperz, a nearby barbershop started by a former employee of Joe King's.
