National Small Business Week: A reminder of the importance of local shops

This week is National Small Business Week, the annual push to shop local by the Small Business Administration.

This year, it's meant to spotlight the resilience of small businesses as they build back from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

North Carolina district SBA office director Mike Arriola said small businesses are important to more than just local economies.

"Here in North Carolina, there are 900,000 small businesses employing about 45% of all workers across the state," Arriola said. "So, the contributions that small businesses make to the broader economy are huge."
