Buncombe County property owners are starting to receive reappraisal notices in the mail. The updated values are based on changes, including new construction and the shifting housing market.
Property owners who don't think the new value of their homes is fair may appeal the appraisal on the Buncombe County website.
Buncombe County officials stressed just because property values may have increased doesn't mean taxes will go up.
"If you got a value that went up 25%, it does not mean your taxes will got up 25%. There's even a good chance that some people's might go down just as much as it might go up," Buncombe County property assessor Keith Miller said.
The property tax rate will be set by Buncombe County commissioners in June.
Buncombe County's last reappraisal happened in 2017.
