This year for its sixth annual Day of Action, United Way of Henderson County is seeking volunteers to help write a thank-you card to every staff member of Henderson County Public Schools.

The Day of Action takes place across the county in a single project to show support for the HCPS staff by collecting and then distributing out the cards for each staff member. Volunteers are asked to take a set of 50 cards and, together with their family, workplace or other groups, write personal messages of support and thanks.

“United Way recognizes it has been a challenging year and a half for us all, and our schools have risen to that challenge,” said Denise Cumbee Long, UWHC executive director. “When we asked HCPS leadership the best way for the community to support our schools through Day of Action this year, this simple request for heartfelt messages of appreciation really touched us. We are excited to unite the community through this simple act of kindness.”

"I have never been more proud of our staff. They have been there for the 13,000 students of this community through virtual learning, hybrid schedules and COVID protocols -- and they’ll be there for whatever comes next," said HCPS Superintendent Dr. John Bryant. "And through it all, they’ve shown care, compassion and dedication to the children of this community.”

Community members who want to volunteer can do so easily by texting ACTION to 71777 or by visiting United Way’s website and clicking “Day of Action.”
